Service beyond the practice
A note from attorney Diederich on one small idea that made its way onto license plates across the country.
I have participated in many endeavors with the intention on making the world a better place. In the early 1990s when I was honorably discharged from the United States Navy I moved to the beautiful state of Michigan. It was not very long before I noticed the many different license plate options that were available to Michiganders.
Of particular note was my observation of the logos of many universities in Michigan available for specialty plates. I remember thinking to myself, “most people go to college for four years and many people serve four years in the military, there should be license plates that highlight a veteran’s branch of service!”
I then took it upon myself to write my local state lawmaker with this suggestion. Several years later, I saw my idea come to life. Over the years, I have seen many states adopt this idea and every time I see one of these plates I feel very proud that I helped make that a reality!
